Cause: Usually concussion on immature legs.

 

Treatment: Rest, cold hosing, anti-inflammatory drugs.  Extra-Corporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) works wonders on bucked shins. It is used by many track vets now and provides faster and more complete healing.

 

Prognosis: Once the inflammation has subsided the horse should be able to return to training and eventually competing.
