Goldenpedia came to the New Vocations with a name that was possibly predestined to be
shortened to “Goldie.” Checking in with her adopters a year later, the 2005 pacing mare has
absolutely earned that shiny nickname.
A Michigan girl, Goldenpedia was welcomed by Michelle Reichel and her family, also of
Michigan, in July 2017. The shiny bay had shown a tendency to both rack and trot, which made
her an appealing prospect. Goldie has evolved into a versatile mount for Michelle’s adult
daughter Jessica. “My daughter adores her,” reports Michelle. Jessica began working with
Goldie with an eye towards eventing, and she competed in her first recognized dressage show
in the summer of 2018. In addition to Jessica’s work with her, Michelle enjoys Goldie on the trail.
“She’s a phenomenal trail horse,” she says. “And so bombproof that Jessica rode her in a
parade.”
Goldie has stayed busy with the Reichels, mastering new skills all the time. Not only a
dressage novice, she’s now part of a high school equestrian team competing in showmanship,
equitation, trail and gymkhana.. Jessica also uses the mare in her lesson program where she’s
kind and patient with beginners.
For 2019, Jessica plans to fine tune Goldie’s canter and compete in both classical and
Western dressage. “We’re so happy to have her as a part of our family,” she said. “We can’t
wait to see how she continues to develop!”
