This unnamed 2017 filly is a little diamond in the rough. With classic sport horse bloodlines like Fappiano, Caro (IRE), and Unbridled, “CC” has all the potential to excel as a sporthorse. She is a sweet, curious little girl who is still learning the ins and outs of being a grown-up, and requires a handler who will introduce things to her slowly and patiently so she can continue to mentally develop in a happy manner.

On the ground, CC is learning ground manners and has proven to be a quick study. She is very patient for a two year old, and stands quietly while being groomed, caught, crosstied, and trimmed for the farrier. She is started on the lunge line and has caught on to the basics of lunging in the round pen and groundwork. Like any young horse, she needs adequate time to be introduced to new situations. She has picked up very well on her daily routine here and has proven to be very smart! In turnout, she goes out with two other younger mares and is playful. She is mid-pack and has not been picked on nor been aggressive to the others.

CC has been restarted very slowly under saddle. Currently, she is only walk/trotting a few times a week working on basics like transitions, circles, and straightness/balance. She has a lovely, flat way of going and a level topline that is ideal for the hunters. Because she is so green, her current goals in her work are focus and consistency. She likes a soft rider who approaches work with a patient mindset and a sense of humor for baby moments.

As a special opportunity for qualified adopters, Unnamed Clarinda 2017 is available for early adoption. Ideal candidates have experience bringing along young horses with limited mileage and would give her the time to finish her growth and physical development while continuing her training patiently. CC was born premature and was retired sound with no known injuries, however, her lungs are underdeveloped and her feet need more time to grow. She is currently barefoot as she needs more hoof to nail to. As such, she is not suitable for anyone who wishes to jump right into intense training. CC is suitable for an advanced rider or professional who has plenty of experience.

New Vocations’ adoption fees are intentionally set lower than the cost of buying most Thoroughbreds or Standardbreds through a private seller. In today’s market, it’s not unusual for horses coming right off the track to be listed for sale at a price between $2,000 and $5,000. At New Vocations, we set a fee that will ultimately help each horse find a home quickly. The program’s facilities are always at full capacity, which means we cannot take in an additional horse until one is adopted. Adopters should be encouraged to know that by adopting a horse through New Vocations, they are actually helping two horses transition to careers outside of racing.

Additionally, adopters get great value for their money: The majority of the horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days. During that time, horses are rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, fully evaluated, and in work with a professional trainer. New Vocations fully discloses each horse’s history and provides all available medical records, many of which include X-ray and ultrasounds.

While adoption fees are low, it should be noted that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for each horse after adoption can be high. New Vocations hopes that by helping an adopter save money upfront, he or she will have more funds available to cover the continuing costs of properly caring for a horse.
