Standing in the gap for retired racehorses providing a safety-net through rehabilitation, education, & placement in qualified, caring homes.

Just wanted to check in with an update on It’s Benn Good, aka Cody. He is doing fantastic and we love him to death. I took him on a large group trail ride on Jan. 1 and he did awesome. There were about 15 horses/riders and he was just calm and happy to enjoy the scenery. He is hesitant about crossing water, but is getting much better with each practice session. The TB horse I have is having some soundness issues, so Cody has become my full-time mount for the show-season this year. I have been taking him to my weekly lessons and just this past week we started him over x-rails. He is very careful with his feet and I think he will make a stylish and safe jumper. He is progressing very nicely on his bending and suppling and learning collection and rounding, so eventually we hope to compete in some low level dressage as well. Looking forward to the fall, we have a local event in which we’re aiming to compete in the “Green as Grass” division for cross-country, after we get him confident going through/over water obstacles. This spring and summer we are planning on attending some local shows that include a pleasure driving class, so we’re hoping to compete in that as well, along with some in-hand and under saddle classes, along with doing lots of relaxing trail riding.
My riding instructor is very fond of him. She has worked with tons of OTTB’s and other breeds, but this is her first Standardbred to work with. He always tries so hard in everything we ask of him and he has a great mind. His temperament is so sweet and undemanding and he is a joy to have around.
I am currently inquiring about adopting a TB you have on the website, located in Lexington. I think New Vocations is the best racehorse adoption agency out there. Thanks for everything y’all do and keep up the good work.
