New Vocations has just released an important educational video, From
Track To Trail: Transitioning The Retired Racehorse. The video covers
both Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds describing in detail how to properly
feed and socialize a horse just coming off the track. It covers the
steps involved in teaching the horse to “give” to the bit
and getting the horse to relax at a walk, trot, and canter. For Standardbreds
that may have never been ridden, it demonstrates mounting for the first
time, teaching leg aids, and developing the rack.
“This video was produced to ease the anxiety often associated
with adopting an ex-racehorse,” said Executive Director Dot Morgan.
“It’s basic, visual, and easy to understand. I’m pleased
that Horse TV and RFD-TV plan to use it in their cable programming.” Morgan, who produced the video with Troy Public Broadcasting has personally
assisted in transitioning over 1200 retired racehorses. “These
steps are tried and true,” Morgan said. “When I’ve
followed them, I’ve never had a horse buck!” From Track To Trail is available on DVD and VHS for $20, which
includes shipping. To order a tape, call (937) 947-4020 in
or fax (937) 947-3201 a Master Card/Visa number or mail a check to New
